Is your marketing plan working for you?

Below is a list of questions that every organisation that spends money on marketing should ask themselves. Every question that is answered as ‘no’ addresses an aspect of marketing that you are currently not doing. You can then implement the issue into your marketing strategy to meet your aims and objectives.

  1. Do you know, in figures, precisely what your key aim is? This has to be the one thing you want to achieve and will need to be able to explain what it is specifically in terms of quantifying and measuring success and having a deadline to achieve the desired results.
  2. Do you know your target audience? What do they look like? Where are they?
  3. Can you name three things that set you apart from the competition?
  4. Do you communicate the benefits of your product or service in all of your promotional literature, websites, letters etc?
  5. Have you tested Direct Mail to attract new customers? Did you accurately measure the results?
  6. Have you tested PR to attract new customers? Did you accurately measure the results?
  7. Are your adverts powerful direct response ads that compel the reader to contact you?
  8. Do you advertise in certain publications just because your competitors do?
  9. What is your digital presence?
  10. Do you send regular communications to your customers and prospective customers?(When was the last time your hairdresser emailed you?!)
  11. Do you ever ask customers for testimonials and use these as a marketing tool?
  12. Do you have a referral systems in place?
  13. Do you offer something of value to your website visitors in exchange for their contact details?
  14. Do you know how to write a press release to instantly grab the attention of the person reading it?
  15. Do you send and personalise your email newsletters?
  16. Do you know the most important piece of marketing information there is – your clients’ birthdays!
  17. Do your team understand that the best way to sell is to ask questions?
  18. How do you ensure that your current customers feel valued?
  19. Do you communicate on a frequent basis to your current customers to ensure they know what you have to offer?
  20. Do you use just one or two ways of marketing to promote your business? Do you know why you should be using between six and ten?
